Tube Lines upgrade of Green Park - 18/01/2012
The Tube Lines upgrade of Green Park has been running since July 2008, and Vital have provided labour to the site, since its inception.
It is one of the busiest tube stations on the network, with over 30 million passengers each year, as it is an interchange between the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines.
As well as upgrading the station, the project has also included making it step-free, and accessible by wheelchair users, which has involved the sinking of a new lift shaft, a brand new canopy on Piccadilly and new entrances directly onto Green Park itself.
With the stringent health and safety issues involved with work on London Underground, there is a constant monitoring in progress, and despite the hundreds of thousands of man hours worked, the site achieved ‘Beacon Plus’ status for its health and safety record. Vital employees also achieved ‘Employee of the Month’ accolade seven times – unmatched by any other supplier to site.
With a majority of the works now completed, the project is projected to be £60 million under budget, and we anticipate having operatives on site until full completion, expected in Spring 2012.
