Engaged on the re-opening of the SSI UK steel works at Redcar

Vital Resources is working with fabricator, SBV Fabrications, who is engaged on the re-opening of the SSI UK steel works at Redcar, Teesside. SBV has contracts with the new owners for Mechanical and Fabrication works across the large site.

Vital Resource’s Newcastle Office has been supplying Welders, Platers, Mechanical Fitters, Pipefitters and various other trades to the project as the plant is made ready to produce steel once again.

The re-opening of the site and the major investment by SSI is an extremely positive move for the Teesside plant after it was mothballed by previous owners Tata, with widespread benefits for the community and the broader region.

The plant is due to be operational in the early part of 2012 following these extensive works.

Metering

Vital Resources carries out electricity metering installation services in North West England, East Midlands, Yorkshire and North East England.

The work is predominately high volume domestic single phase metering and includes multi rate and key meters. The projects are managed from our Liverpool office and each has dedicated supervision, administration and support from our HSE and auditing staff.

The overall scope of work undertaken varies across each area and can include, scheduling, planning, recertification, customer driven, and out of hours on-call works.

Metering assets that are supplied free issue from United Utilities are managed via our bar coding system, ensuring all meters are tracked and individually recorded as they move into and out of our stores with the ‘issued to’ operative recorded.

The majority of the operatives undertaking the work have graduated from our in house training facility with subsequent assessment and authorisation carried out by our clients.

Offshore wind farm project

Vital Resources is providing personnel to the world’s largest offshore wind farm project. The operatives are constructing two of the main substations in both Belgium and on the Thames estuary, situated off the Kent and Essex coasts.

Once complete in 2012, London Array will supply 750,000 British households with eco-friendly electricity, which is equivalent to approximately a quarter of the population of Greater London.

Offshore wind farms of this size place particular demands in terms of grid access and Siemens secured the project due to their technology and wealth of experience in connecting offshore wind farms to the grid.

Rough Field Platforms - EI-WHS

EI-WHS has been awarded a minimum three year contract to support Centrica PLC on the day to day maintenance of its Rough Field Platforms.   The contract success was due to the combined effort and approach from both
EI-WHS and Vital Resources.

Part of this award includes a planned £78m spend over the next three-five years, further to existing works. The E&I element of this spend will be managed and awarded to EI WHS; with the resource being supported and managed between EI-WHS and Vital Resources.

In addition to this award; both EI-WHS and Vital Resources have been re-engaged to complete works, not only in the North Sea but also now in the Southern sector  This work starts immediately with the recruitment of 90 offshore personnel.

St Pancras - Client: Spie Matthew Hall

The St Pancras CTRL project is another of the capital’s biggest and highest profile contracts.
This latest phase involves the completion of the retail units and VIP areas around the Eurostar platforms and International Departure Hall.  The work will get underway in an area below the platforms, which was used for the storage of beer barrels brought down to London from Burton upon Trent.
The main contractor on this part of the project is Spie Matthew Hall. Vital Resources has been supplying the company with labour since the outset, when Spie Matthew Hall had a small mechanical presence on site. Since then, the labour requirement has built considerably, and we now supply labour at all levels of Electrical and Mechanical work.
St Pancras’ Eurostar service started running on 14 November 2007, when it was officially opened by The Queen.

As well as the new international services, the station will also be used to provide a seven-minute rail link to Stratford during the 2012 Olympics.

Terminal 5 - Client - EI-WHS

Vital Resources secured the contract to supply Mechanical Fitters and Electricians for the Baggage Handling Project at T5 Heathrow.

EI-WHS were subcontracted to Dutch firm Van Der Lande which specialises in the design and build of Airport Baggage Handling Systems. T5 is Van Der Lande’s largest European project to-date.

The Terminal 5 site is the same size as Hyde Park in London and takes up one quarter of the whole of Heathrow Airport.  The project took over 37 million man hours to complete, and has over 13km of bored tunnels, including the London Underground extension.

It is estimated that the total cost of the project was circa £4.2bn for a terminal that will handle 30m passengers annually.

Tube Lines - Deep Cleaning Contract

Vital Resources London Office has secured a long term contract with Tube Lines for Deep Cleaning Public Areas and ‘Back of House’ on 11 Stations on the Jubilee Line.

The scope of work extends beyond deep cleaning to tactile installation, plastering, electrical installation and painting.

Tube Lines - Jubilee, Northern & Piccadilly Lines

Vital Resources’ London branch secured an order from Tubelines, the company responsible for the upgrade and maintenance on the London Underground’s Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly Lines.

Initially we provided ground workers and, later, painting gangs for night shifts, downtime hours and weekend possession work.

From the initial supply of men for Colindale we were awarded the contract for Hendon Central – both stations built in the 1920s.

The work involved stripping paint from the wooden platform canopies and repainting.  These stations are just part of a huge ongoing station refurbishment programme on the Northern Line.  Both stations are pivotal to the London Underground network. Hendon Station services 4.75m passengers per annum, Colindale 3.2m.

Since completion of the first stations, we have seen the labour requirements grow steadily, with men now supplied for Dollis Hill, Willesden Green, West Finchley, Camden, Southgate and Queensbury Stations.

On the back of the stripping and painting work, we are now supplying Mechanical and Electrical operatives.

Vital Resources supplies trades on Tyne Tunnel Crossing

Vital Resource’s in the North East have supplied personnel to two main clients on both recent Tyne Tunnel Projects – the construction of the new tunnel at the start of this year and the refurbishment of the old tunnel which was completed in November 2011.

Vital was the main supplier of electrical and data installation personnel to Spie WHS Ltd, who completed the main systems installation for both tunnels (old and new).  In addition to this, mechanical and pipe-work personnel were supplied to another main contractor on the refurbishment project.

The Tyne Tunnel development now means that there is a dual carriageway both ways through the two tunnels which has meant significant improvements in journey times in the region.

Vital Resource’s Newcastle Office

Vital Resource’s Newcastle Office has supplied electrical personnel to electrical contractor, E-Tech Group on the construction of a section of the new carrier at a Tyneside shipyard.

The HMS Queen Elizabeth is being constructed in sections in various facilities and shipyards throughout the UK.

Once completed at these yards, the sections are shipped to the Rosyth Yard in Scotland where the sections are assembled together to form the carrier, rather like a large jigsaw.

The Tyne section was completed on time and has since been shipped to Scotland. During the course of the project, Vital supplied Marine and shipyard electricians and semi-skilled Personnel, which contributed to a successful project end for our client.

Wembley Stadium - Client - MJN Colston

The new Wembley Stadium is one of the highest profile jobs in the UK and attracted attention from the media on an unprecedented scale.

MJN Colston, the mechanical contractor, was tasked with resourcing additional labour at very short notice.  With the assistance of Vital Resources, MJN delivered the project to programme.

Vital resourced circa 200 plumbers, pipefitters and mates.

The stadium’s new arch reaches 133 mtrs at the highest point and is large enough to accommodate the London Eye. The 90,000 capacity stadium is rapidly becoming the ‘International Home of Football’ and Vital Resources is proud to have played a part in its construction.
